Nathalie Provost was elected Member of Parliament for Châteauguay–Les Jardins-de-Napierville in April 2025 and was appointed Secretary of State (Nature) in Prime Minister Carney’s government. In this capacity, Ms. Provost plays a leading and coordinating role in achieving the Government of Canada’s goals for nature conservation, such as protecting
30% of its terrestrial and marine areas by 2030.
Ms. Provost is a survivor of the 1989 Polytechnique femicide. She was awarded the Canadian Medal of Bravery for her determination during the tragic events and for her ability, in the hours that followed the tragedy, to deliver a message of hope to the Polytechnique community and to the people of Quebec. Since then, she has become a prominent spokesperson and an active advocate for gun control in Canada, notably serving as the spokesperson for PolyRemembers (PolySeSouvient) until the time she decided to run in the federal elections.
In February 2024, on their 50th anniversary, the National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL) honoured Nathalie Provost with the inaugural Shirley Greenberg Award for outstanding leadership in feminist law reform. Since 2014, she has continued to support
and encourage women in engineering, notably as a patron of the Order of the White Rose, a pan-Canadian scholarship established by Polytechnique Montréal in tribute to the victims, as well as the injured, the families, the professors, the employees, and the students who found themselves at the heart of the tragedy.
Despite the tragedy that forever marked her life, Nathalie Provost has shown remarkable resilience, evolving into the inspiring woman she is today. Her journey is, without a doubt, proof that it is possible to rise again, to find one’s place in society, and to move resolutely toward one’s ambitions while staying true to, and passing on, one’s deepest values.
">Throughout her career, Nathalie Provost has consistently been motivated by a profound commitment to enhancing the collective well-being of citizens.
Graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (1990) and a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering (1993) from Polytechnique Montréal, Mrs. Provost has distinguished herself through over two decades of dedicated service in high-ranking civil service roles. After serving as Director General of Analysis and Expertise for Central and Southern Quebec at the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks of Quebec, she chose to make the leap into politics.
